Biography: Ramona is an associate at Carrillo Law Firm, P.C. in Las Cruces, New Mexico. She practices civil litigation and criminal defense. Prior to joining the Carrillo Law Firm, Ramona was an associate trial attorney at the Law Offices of the Public Defender in the Las Cruces district office. There, Ramona found a passion and love for juvenile justice.
Ramona is a proud native New Mexican. She grew up in Tierra Amarilla on her family’s ranch, where she gained an appreciation and understanding of the needs of rural New Mexico. Ramona graduated as a Presidential Scholar from the University of New Mexico, and then attended the University of New Mexico School of Law. She was a member of the Mexican American Law Student Association, and served one year on the board as mentorship chair.
Prior to attending law school, Ms. Martinez worked for the Office of Governor Bill Richardson. Before joining private practice, Ms. Martinez was a public servant working at the Children, Youth, and Families Department, and then at the New Mexico Retiree Health Care Authority, where she lobbied on behalf of 50,000 public retirees. She has worked and volunteered for various congressional and statewide political campaigns.
Ms. Martinez is a devoted single mother of a 17-year-old son. Ms. Martinez is a current member of the Las Cruces Junior League, and was a model in the 2016 Las Cruces High Heels for High Hopes, raising money for The March of Dimes. She has been a past board member of the Albuquerque Community Foundation’s Future Fund and HELP NM CSBG Board. Ramona is a current member of the State Bar of New Mexico, New Mexico Hispanic Bar Association, and the New Mexico Criminal Defense Lawyers Association.
